So the first question you want to ask someone if you’re looking for a lawyer in an automobile accident case as a result of injuries that you’ve sustained or God forbid, a death, is do you limit your practice to this kind of work, to personal injury work?
The reason that we suggest that you ask that question of any firm is there is no specialization in Michigan. You can’t advertise as a specialist, but you can tell people honestly that you limit your practice and they have to tell you. If you say, do you do wills? Do you do real estate closings? Do you handle corporate matters?
I think that’s something you want to know. My advice to you is, find a lawyer who limits their practice to personal injury cases. I think that makes sense. If you can’t figure out if they’re a specialist, because that doesn’t exist in Michigan, the specialization of lawyers, you can at least find out, do you limit your practice to this area of the law? And I think you can understand that you’re better served by someone who limits their practice to personal injury matters.
